Kanagavalli Suryanarayanan
India’s first Polar Law scholar
Ms. Kanagavalli Suryanarayanan is India’s first Polar Law scholar, specializing in the laws, policies and geopolitics of the Arctic, Antarctic and Third Pole-Himalayas, with a focus on great power politics. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Arctic Geopolitics and Security at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway, and has been practicing as an advocate in India since 2003. She holds an LLM in Polar Law from the University of Akureyri, Iceland. She has served as Rapporteur for the Antarctic Treaty Secretariat and actively contributes to articulating India’s perspective on polar issues in global forums.
