India’s AI Gambit: Navigating the Global Race

The AI age is upon us. Developments in AI technology as well as on governance and regulatory aspects are moving at breakneck speed. Geopolitically, the race is on for AI supremacy. India is well poised to be an early starter and has moved fast in the last five years. In recognition of this, NatStrat has created a separate section on AI in which we feature essays on the technology but also on its geopolitical, security and governance aspects, as well as developments in India in the field of AI.

NatStrat, along with the Strategic Foresight Group (SFG) and Founding Fuel, convened a stimulating, multi-stakeholder dialogue titled “India’s AI Gambit: Navigating the Global Race” in New Delhi on 15 January 2026. Keynote addresses were delivered by Dr. V K Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog and Shri Alok Joshi, Chairman, National Security Advisory Board.

A report prepared by the SFG titled “India’s AI Gambit: Navigating the Global Race” dealing with the Sovereignty, Scientific, Safety and Security and Governance aspects of AI was released on the occasion.
